ABOUT
Nicole D'Angelo is a pianist, clarinetist, and multi-instrumentalist from Warren, New Jersey. Known for her versatility and well-roundedness as a musician, Nicole earned dual degrees in music education (piano concentration) and music performance (clarinet concentration) from Montclair State University in January 2017. During this time she was also certified to teach in NJ public schools (Grades P-12) and graduated summa cum laude. While at MSU Nicole was awarded the 2015 award for Outstanding Undergraduate Performer and won two concerto competitions on both of her primary instruments. From 2014-2016 Nicole played both piano/celesta and clarinet/bass clarinet with the esteemed New York Youth Symphony, performing several times in Carnegie Hall. Recently she was named a finalist in the 2017 VSA International Competition for Young Musicians with Disabilities. Nicole enjoys her career as a freelance musician not only in orchestral settings but in theaters where she can frequently be found playing piano, keyboards, or any number of woodwind instruments in the pit. When she is not in the practice room Nicole loves teaching and specializes in working with students with a broad range of disabilities including autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome. Outside of music she is known for her advocacy for Autistic individuals such as herself, and was named a 2012 Outstanding Woman by the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women for her work writing news articles and blogs about her experiences in order to promote autism acceptance. Nicole's primary teachers include David Sapadin (clarinet), Dennis Smylie (bass clarinet), and Dr. David Witten (piano).
